As part of the the road side eatery trend of the 50's, Zucky's was a deli where politicians mingled with ordinary citizens. The building witnessed many love stories some of which were told to me first hand by the now middle aged daters themselves. I heard countless stories from residents of Santa Monica as they strolled by while I was working on this majestic building. My closeness to the building, my daily visits to the site, and the lovely stories attributed to this building led me to fall in love with it as well. Zucky's was closed up and boarded up for a decade prior to the Sissoko Design Office renovation work which included earthquake retrofitting, exterior rehab, and the delicate task of reusing the existing window frames and protecting the existing Palos Verdes stone and custom exterior tiles to satisfy the city's and the Modern Conservancy's wishes. Zucky's with its Googie style trademark eye brow canopy, now houses a branch of First Republic Bank. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
